Research: My main research area is population genetic and population ecology of aquatic organisms applied to the conservation at both specific and genetic level. Using different molecular markers (mtDNA, microsatellites, AFLPs), we studied the respective roles of historical and contemporary factors that affect the genetic structure of natural populations (loss of variability, connectivity, natural selection, etc). In the present, my collaborators and I has been studying the genetic structure at different geographical scales of a kelp species (Lessonia nigrescens); the maternal effect and the reproductive success in two species of limpets (Crepipatella) with different larval development, and the use of the barcoding to identify megalopae larvae (Cancridae) collected from the field. My second research relates the genetic diversity at community level and the habitat size. Using multi-species genetic analyses, we studied the community genetic diversity in rivers with different water flow in the central-north Chile.
