Investigación: Mi interés es estudiar la ecología de las invasiones biológicas. Una pregunta central en esta área es averiguar qué propiedades hacen a un ecosistema susceptible o bien resistente a las invasiones biológicas. Esta pregunta la estamos enfrentando a tres escalas espaciales: a) regional: estamos comparando floras exóticas entre zonas biogeográficas climáticamente similares. A pesar que esta aproximación comparativa es frecuente en estudios de convergencia evolutiva entre biotas nativas, no ha sido utilizada con floras exóticas. Esta aproximación la pensamos realizar utilizando listas publicadas de floras nativas e introducidas entre diferentes zonas mediterráneas  del mundo; b) paisaje: pretendemos examinar la estructura metapoblacional de plantas exóticas que viven en paisajes fragmentados de Chile Central de modo de evaluar patrones de ocupación de parches como una función de atributos tales como tamaño del parche, distancia a fuentes de propágalos y grado de aislamiento de los parches. Esta aproximación está siendo realizada en especies arbóreas tales como Pinus radiata y Teline monpessulana  usando imágenes satelitales; c) nivel de parche: estamos examinando respuestas individualísticas, demográficas y comunitarias de especies exóticas como una función de la variación microclimática. Esta aproximación está siendo usada utilizando experimentos naturales y de campo,  así como pensamos también utilizar modelos demográficos que capturen “cuellos de botella” demográficos que restringen el establecimiento y dispersión de estas plantas en el paisaje. La segunda pregunta que orienta mi investigación es: ¿cuáles son las consecuencias ecológicas de la invasión de una especie de planta exótica. Esta pregunta la estamos empezando a contestar evaluando los efectos de la invasión de Pinus radiata, Rubus spp. y Teline monpessulana.
